Topical Discussion
Topical Discussions are structured like a round-table discussion with an expert on the topic speaking for 15-20 minutes about the topic, but opening up the discussion for all to participate.  These discussions have been wildly popular and are a good way to discuss current topics in a forum where everyone can voice their opinion.  Please come prepared to participate.

Angelo Torrealba will discuss the origins of the current humanitarian and political crisis in Venezuela under the current regime of Nicolas Maduro and prospects for change, including political actions, legal mechanisms and external diplomatic options. Mr. Torrealba will  provide his analysis for what pathways and options would be most fruitful and will introduce the participants at the table and those on the streets. 

Angelo Torrealba, a Venezuelan born attorney, is a widely cited political commentator and human rights advocate who has first-hand experience with Nicolas Maduro’s government and its arcane policies in Venezuela. Mr. Torrealba is active within the Venezuelan community in the United States and has represented their interests at the Organization of American States before Dr. Luis Almagro and at the United Nations with the Secretary General’s Envoy for Youth Affairs. Mr. Torrealba currently serves as the attorney representing Venezuelan Students Abroad (EVE) and Venezuelan Pensioners before the InterAmerican Commission for Human Rights and serves as Executive Director for Pensipnados y Jubliados Venezolanos Mundo (Global Venezuelan Pensioners). Mr. Torrealba is also a member of the Phoenix based law firm Apfel and Associates, P.C..  Among his various academic achievements, Angelo has received two LLMs most recently from Arizona State University's Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law

 Parking and Directions to Beus Center for Law and Society

Parking is available at either the Downtown Cronkite visiting parking lot (UCENT II) located on the south side of Filmore between 1st St. and Central Ave. If you park at the Cronkite lot, please inform the attendant that you are here for the PCFR Event.

Parking is also available at the Downtown Phoenix University Center Garage (UCENT) located at 411 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ. The entrance is off of Polk Street, in between 1st Street and Central.

-Parking rates are as follows:

1-2 hrs: $6

2-3 hrs: $9

$12 max rate

-The law school is located in the Beus Center for Law and Society (blue building in the diagram below), 111 E. Taylor St., Phoenix, 85004. It is across the street from the parking structure. Please enter the law school building off of Taylor St. and 1st Street

-Take the elevators to the 6th floor. Room 601 will be to your left.
