AMERICA AS THE WORLD’S POLICEMAN: Does it have to be this way forever?

We are on the cusp of a change in the way we do foreign policy in this country. The major threat in the world today is terrorism, not land wars between great powers. Yet the world’s security infrastructure continues to be based largely on conditions that prevailed during the Cold War.

AMERICAN UMPIRE (A portion of the movie will be shown during lunch) is a 56 minute documentary narrated by Jim Lehrer that takes a critical look at America’s role as the world’s policeman. In interviews with some of the biggest names in foreign policy, including Condoleezza Rice, Madeline Albright, George Schulz, and more, AMERICAN UMPIRE explores our origins as a neutral nascent republic and our transition to a highly engaged superpower after World War II. AMERICAN UMPIRE asks the important question, “What is the future of American geopolitical engagement in a rapidly changing world?”
